Engineering
My major is Mechanical Engineering with a specialty in Mechatronics.
Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary track that combines Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Engineering. It is the study of designing control programs on computers to operate mechanical and electrical systems. The cruise control system in your car, autopilot in an airplane, the cooling system for your computer, and nearly all robotic and automation applications fall under Mechatronics. You can read more about Mechatronics under Senior Year, or check out my Capstone Project. Of course, I took many non-mechatronics related courses as well. Mechanical Engineering is the most diverse of the different engineering fields, which is part of what attracted me to it. We learn about thermodynamics and energy, heat transfer and fluid dynamics, manufacturing processes and material science, dynamics and kinematics, and so much more. This makes it possible for us to go into nearly any industry. To the right are some of the engineering and technical classes I took as an undergrad. If you'd like to hear more about my hands-on engineering experience, check out my Engineering Internships. |
